Jean Pierre Sibomana is a gender equality and equity activist working at Young Women Christian Association (YWCA) in Rwanda.

Jean Pierre Sibomana is a results-oriented development professional who works across a wide array of sectors and areas of focus—youth empowerment, gender equity, gender mainstreaming, gender-based violence (GBV) prevention, services and advocacy, education, livelihoods, and institutional capacity development. Jean Pierre has worked with the Young Women Christian Association (YWCA) in Rwanda for the last nine years.

In this interview with WI-HER’s Technical Advisor and Rwanda Country Representative, Floride Yamuragiye, Jean Pierre shares how he embraces equity in his professional life and the importance of breaking down barriers to ensure equal access to professional opportunities for women.

As he states, “My primary responsibility to promote equity at work is to educate staff, because sometimes inequalities come from lack of awareness, so we do the best to educate our staff, volunteers, and stakeholders on equity and put in place policies, strategies, and guidelines, to ensure that equity–particularly gender equity–is mainstreamed throughout our operations.”
