WI-HER and URC Publish Gender Integration Manual
Press Release on November 18, 2012
WI-HER worked with the USAID Health Care Improvement Project (HCI) to design and implement guidance and policies around gender integration for 28-country quality improvement project. Together with University Research Co., LLC (URC), which leads HCI, WI-HER recently published a manual of gender integration principles, processes and tools for program implementers, health care providers, community organizations, Ministry of Health officials, and other stakeholders.
“Implementation Guide-Integrating Gender in Improvement Activities” provides an overview of key concepts and definitions related to gender and gender integration, as well as specific guidance for explicitly identifying, understanding, and addressing gender-related barriers and gaps in improvement and health programming. It also includes guidance on conducting a gender analysis, using sex-disaggregated data for decision-making, developing indicators to assess the impact of gender integration efforts, and facilitating discussions around gender. The manual also includes a program “checklist” for implementers to ensure their programs sufficiently address gender throughout the program cycle.
The manual and related tools are available for download from the HCI website: http://www.hciproject.org/publications/integrating-gender-improvement-activities
