In Loving Memory of Your Bright Light
By: Alison LeFew, Senior Director for Program Growth and Partnerships
She brought me an orchid
To celebrate new life,
Elegant and reaching
For the bright light.
He made her a smile
At first; she dazzled,
Beautiful and giving,
Sharing her light.
She made his heart skip,
Excited in love; then jealous,
Possessive, and pursuing,
Wanting her light.
He brought a gun
That fateful night,
Erratic and raging,
Ending the bright light.
I wrote this poem for my friend who was murdered by her boyfriend in 2015. At WI-HER we fight daily to eradicate gender-based violence and intimate partner violence. We believe that her/his/their bright light warms us all.
