WI-HER Welcomes Gender-based Violence Research Intern Julia Chen

WI-HER, LLC is excited to announce that Julia Chen has joined the WI-HER team as a gender-based violence (GBV) research intern where she will be supporting our efforts to prevent and respond to GBV. Julia will focus on GBV prevention and programming in the Middle East, specifically in Egypt and Jordan. Julia is currently an MPH candidate in global health at the Emory University Rollins School of Public Health, concentrating in community health and development. She is a technical research assistant at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention where she assists with foodborne disease surveillance. Julia received her BSPH from Tulane University where she conducted mixed-methods research for her honors thesis entitled, “The Knowledge and Attitudes of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Infection, Vaccine, and Recommendations among College Students.” She is also an advocate for empowering working women in the public health world. She founded the Global Health Leaders Across Multicultural Women (GLAM) during her undergraduate studies and she continues to volunteer with local organizations that provide career coaching to homeless women and young adults. She is very passionate about women’s health, gender equity, and cultural impacts on health. Julia speaks English, Cantonese Chinese, and basic French.
