The Impact of GESI on NTD Outcomes in Uganda
Improving NTD Outcome Through Gender Equity and Social Inclusion: Uganda
Principal investigators: Richard Killian (RTI); Taroub Faramand (WI-HER)
A gender equity and social inclusion (GESI) analysis, based upon focus group discussions and key informant interviews with target communities in Uganda, shows how the various roles and statuses of women, men, and people with disabilities facilitate or hinder the objectives of Uganda’s neglected tropical disease (NTD) program. Based upon the findings, the Uganda Ministry of Health (MOH) and USAID’s Act to End Neglected Tropical Disease | East (Act | East) program developed recommendations, including strategies and approaches, to recognize, consider, and operationalize GESI considerations and factors in the country’s NTD response.
