Podcast Interview: Joyce Draru Discusses Nursing and the Role of Nurses in the Community

Joyce Draru is a Gender and Youth Specialist, who is working on the USAID Social and Behavior Change Activity (SBCA). She is also a nurse with more than 20 years of experience taking care of patients, leading quality improvement initiatives, and strengthening health systems. 

In our latest podcast, WI-HER’s Knowledge Management Associate Elizabeth Kemigisha interviews Joyce about her nursing journey and training, why she became a nurse, how nurses play a vital role in communities, and how we can best protect, support, and invest in the nursing profession. 

Throughout the interview, Joyce stresses the importance of patient-centered care and leading with love and service. As Joyce says, “I always put myself in the shoes of the patient.”
